Discover the exciting world of Hawkwatching!
The hawk counts conducted at Braddock Bay number in the tens of thousands, with the highest recorded count of over 140,000 raptors in 1996. With such impressive numbers of raptors passing through this area, migration is certainly an exciting time. Visitors are always welcome at the hawk watch platform which is easily accessible at Braddock Bay Park. The platform provides an ideal location for hawk watching at any skill level and includes some identification tools for watchers just starting out. Bring binoculars and spotting scope if you have them to aid in your viewing.
The best days to come out for a good hawk flight in the spring months are those with southwest winds, 10 mph or a little stronger. On favorable wind days the count will be conducted at Braddock Bay Park. If southerly winds are too light, and cause the northerly lake effect winds to kick in, the flight is often better viewed at Frisbee Hill Park, to the south of Braddock Bay.
